Practice 3: Windows Defender and Windows Genuine Advantage

This practice consists of a series of steps that will demonstrate a typical WGA check. In this

practice, you begin the process of obtaining Windows Defender, a freely available Microsoft

product that is used to protect against spyware. To get to the point of actually downloading

Windows Defender, your computer must pass a WGA check. With Windows Vista, you would

not actually do this because Windows Defender is already included. This practice demon-

strates the WGA check and is not about Windows Defender. This practice requires that your

computer be connected to the Internet. To complete this practice, perform the following steps:

1. Open Internet Explorer, and navigate to the following URL: http://www.microsoft.com

/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

2. Click Download It Here.

3. In the area of the webpage that has a Continue button next to Validation Required, as

shown in Figure 3-28, click Continue.
