Chapter Summary

■

Windows Vista Firewall has two aspects: the basic firewall and the firewall with

advanced security.

■

The basic firewall allows all outbound traffic and can be configured to have exceptions

for inbound traffic. It can be configured only for the currently active network profile.

■

The firewall with advanced security can be configured with inbound and outbound

rules. It is also possible to configure rules for all network profiles, not just the active one.

■

Remote Assistance allows a user to forward an invitation to a helper that enables that

helper to concurrently view the user’s screen. There are several safeguards in place to

stop the helper from overriding the user and taking control of the user’s computer.

■

Remote Desktop allows a user to connect to an existing session that the user has created

on a remote Windows Vista computer or to initiate a new session.

■

A user logged on to a computer cannot be logged off if another user attempts to connect

remotely. A remotely connected user cannot be logged off if another user attempts to

connect locally.
