Lesson 1: Configuring Windows Mail

Practice 2: Configuring Windows Mail Junk E-mail Options
In this practice, you will configure the Windows Mail Junk E-Mail options so
that most junk e-
mail is caught and placed in the junk e-mail folder, that phishing e-mail is
moved to the junk
e-mail folder, and that any e-mail in Cyrillic, Greek, or Vietnamese is
automatically blocked.
These encodings were selected randomly, and the selection is not intended to
imply anything
about the frequency of junk e-mail sent using these character encodings.
1. Open Windows Mail. Click the Tools menu, and then click Junk E-Mail
Options.
2. IIn the Options tab, change the junk e-mail protection level from Low to
High. This
improves junk e-mail protection but also leads to more false positives.
3. In the Phishing tab, ensure that both the Protect My Inbox From Messages
With Poten-
tial Phishing Links and Move Phishing E-Mail To The Junk E-Mail Folder check
boxes are
selected.
4. In the International tab, click Blocked Encoding List. Scroll through the
list of available
encodings, and select the Cyrillic, Greek, and Vietnamese options. Click OK
twice to
close the dialog box.
Practice 3: Connecting to a News Server and Subscribing to Newsgroups
