To install the driver manually, perform the following steps:
■
Make a note of the device driver’s location. If you have downloaded the
driver off the
Internet, it was probably in a compressed format. You need to extract the
files from the
compressed archive before you can install the device driver.
■
In the Start menu, click Control Panel. If the Device Manager icon is not
displayed, click
Classic View in the left side taskbar. Then, double-click Device Manager. In
the User
Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
NOTE
User Account Control
You will learn more about the purpose and function of User Account Control
in Chapter 5,
“User Account Control.”
■
Locate the device that you want to install the driver for and right-click
it. Select Update
Driver Software. In this example, the driver for the USB Video Device shown
earlier in
Figure 1-16 is installed.
■
In the Update Driver Software window, click Browse My Computer For Driver
Software.
■
On the Browse For Driver Software On Your Computer page, shown in Figure
1-17, click
Browse, and navigate to the folder containing the driver software. After you
have located
the folder containing the driver software, click Next.
